Training camp for Moldovans in Srpska. U.S. Embassy in Sarajevo seeks investigation

“The existence of a camp in Bosnia and Herzegovina, reported by the authorities in Chisinau, where Russian private military groups allegedly trained Moldovans to destabilize the situation in Moldova, must be thoroughly investigated, and the persons responsible for facilitating such activities must be held accountable," the U.S. Embassy in Sarajevo said in a statement to RFE/RL’s Moldovan Service, IPN reports.

The U.S. diplomatic service is "deeply concerned" about reports that Russian instructors are conducting training in the Serbian entity Republika Srpska with the aim of persecuting democratic processes in another EU candidate state.

On the other hand, the quoted source wrote that, in a statement made earlier to Free Europe, the Bosnian Ministry of Security rejected the information about the existence of such a camp and that it did not receive any evidence about it, and no official request from the Moldovan authorities to investigate the situation. Therefore, the Bosnian ministry considers that mentioning the state was an attempt at manipulation in the context of a hot political campaign in Moldova.

On Monday, however, the Bosnian Intelligence-Security Agency confirmed that it has information about a group of Moldovans who "have been in Bosnia and Herzegovina for the last 90 days" and who the Moldovan police say were involved in training in destabilization tactics.

Members of the Bosnian parliamentary commission for the control of the Intelligence-Security Agency told the Service that the camps that the Moldovan authorities are talking about are located on the territory of the Republika Srpska, a fact confirmed to Free Europe by the U.S. Embassy in Sarajevo.
