“We look with hope at the Alliance for European Integration. This is the only political solution that guarantees Moldova’s integration into the West,” the President of Romania Traian Basescu said in a press briefing held on April 28 after a discussion with Moldova’s Acting President Marian Lupu at the Cotroceni Palace, Info-Prim Neo’s correspondent in Bucharest reports. The Romanian head of state said his country politically encourages the ruling alliance in Moldova to continue the reforms and to remain united. He stated that the prolongation of the political crisis can make the EU lose interest in Moldova. Traian Basescu assured Marian Lupu that the Romanian state will continue to support the implementation of European reforms in Moldova and will provide assistance in carrying out the agreements between Chisinau and Brussels. He mentioned the agreement on the liberalization of the visa regime, the agreement on the creation of a European economic area and the Association Agreement with the EU that is under negotiation. The Romanian President also said that a plan of action for implementing the declaration on the strategic partnership for European integration between Romania and Moldova, which was signed in 2010by Traian Basescu and the then Acting President of Moldova Mihai Ghimpu, will be worked out soon. “The given visit will allow the two states to agree measures aimed at strengthening the bilateral relations between Chisinau and Bucharest,” said Marian Lupu for his part. The Moldovan official stressed that the Moldovan-Romanian relations advanced in 2010 and the legal framework between Moldova and Romania was developed. He thanked Traian Basescu for the provision of €100,000 in financial assistance to Moldova. After the meeting at the Cotroceni Palace, Marian Lupu met with the chairman of the Romanian Senate Mircea Geoana. The Moldovan delegation was met with military honors.
