Traian Basescu: Moldova passes through crucial year, it's only Chisinau that may capitalize it
Moldova will stay in the center of Romania's concerns this year, too, said Romanian president Traian Basescu Wednesday, Info-Prim Neo quotes the Romanian news agency Mediafax.
“After the reunions of the European Councils last year, Moldova is in a crucial year, facing a historic chance: the offer of the European Union, and particularly of Romania, is generous. It's at the latitude of the Chisinau authorities to capitalize it,” Basescu underlined in his speech before foreign diplomats accredited to Bucharest.
He says Moldova will remain in the center of Romania's concerns. “We'll continue to support the efforts of the Chisinau authorities meant to insure the democratization of the country and a predictable European path. Holding the April parliamentary elections in the best conditions, observing the democratic principles, will represent an important test and we hope Moldova will confirm the degree of trust we and our European partners credit it with,” Basescu said.
According to Traian Basescu, Romania will continue to back the process of regulating the process of regulating the Transnistrian conflict, “to identify a solution to observe Moldova's territorial integrity, independence and sovereignty.”
