Traffic to be eased at Moldova-Romania border for vacation season

Measures will be put in place to facilitate crossing procedures at the border between Moldova and Romania to cope with the increasing numbers – usually by up to 40% – of vacationers and Moldovan migrants returning home around this time of the year.

The measures were discussed during a meeting at the Leușeni border crossing between Rosian Vasiloi, head of the Moldovan Border Police, and Victor-Dumitru Mariniuc, head of the Iasi Territorial Border Police Inspectorate.

Border Police press officer Raisa Noviţchi told IPN that the measures include supplementing the number of border police officers. All lanes will be operating and will exchange traffic if needed. Also, support groups are being set up to assist at the most busy crossing checkpoints, such as Leușeni, Palanca, Tudora, Giurgiulești-Galați, and communicate with travelers in case of longer than usual wait times.

According to Rosian Vasiloi, the border police must make sure citizens enjoy the best services while not conceding anything in terms of border security standards. At the same time, Vasiloi has asked the Romanian side to exchange contacts with the managers of border crossings given the recent personnel shake-up.

Iasi Border Police chief Victor-Dumitru Mariniuc believes that congested traffic issues at the border can be solved by increasing personnel and improving inspection times, and also by having good communicators who can appease concerns among travelers.
