Trade between Moldova and Ukraine rose by about 25%
Trade between Moldova and Ukraine over January-July 2007 was 431 mln USD, or by 86 mln USD (24.9%) more compared with the corresponding period of 2006.
Trade with Ukraine makes up 16.5% of Moldova’s total foreign trade.
The Moldovan enterprises in this period imported Ukrainian goods worth about 349.8 mln USD and exported merchandise of only 81.2 mln USD.
Moldova imported mainly energy resources such as electric power and oil products totalling about 120 mln USD. Imports of agrifood products rose 1.9-fold, while imports of domestic appliances from Ukraine increased by 20%.
Traditionally, the Republic of Moldova exports to Ukraine food products and beverages, vegetal products, textiles and stone products. Exports of wine as raw material to Ukraine rose from 14.9 mln USD to 22.3 mln USD, of plaster and anhydrides – from 6.8 mln USD to 10.6 mln USD, of furniture – from 0.4 mln USD to 2.3 mln USD.
According to a press release from the Ukrainian Embassy, the Ukrainian authorities are concerned about Moldova’s negative balance of trade with Ukraine and are ready to take measures to gradually even the imports and exports and to continuously increase the trade between the two states.
