Tiraspol will be unable to host UEFA competition matches

Tiraspol city could not host matches of the UEFA competition until further notice, as the UEFA Executive Committee decided, the Moldovan Football Federation informs.

“In accordance with previous decisions taken by the UEFA Executive Committee in light of the large-scale military escalation resulting in the invasion of the Ukrainian territory by the Russian army, the UEFA Executive Committee decided that no UEFA competition match shall be played in the region of Transnistria, in Moldova, until further notice,” runs a press release of the UEFA Executive Committee.

Accordingly, FC Sheriff Tiraspol, which will start playing in the upcoming first qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League (2022/23 season), have been invited to propose an alternative venue/stadium (which must comply with all applicable UEFA regulations) outside the region of Transnistria for its home matches in UEFA club competitions for as long as the prohibition to play in the region remains in force.

In the first qualifying round, Sheriff meet Zrinjski Bosnia and Herzegovina in Mostar on July 6. The return game will be played on a stadium that will be announced later on July 13.
