Tiraspol refused the support offered by the European Union in the amount of €60 million. The information was communicated by Prime Minister Dorin Recean. According to the official, this was a solution to free the Transnistrian region from blackmail and energy instability, IPN reports.
"Russia does not allow them to accept European aid for fear of losing control over the region," said Dorin Recean.
He noted that the basic condition refused by Tiraspol was the gradual increase in charges for consumers. Therefore, they cannot receive money from the €60 million aid offered by the EU.
"The solution that the regime in Tiraspol has chosen means that the inhabitants of the Transnistrian region will continue to live in a state of unpredictability and concern about the gas supply. It is a solution that does not solve the problem in the long term," said Premier Recean.
The European Union last week announced additional financial support in the amount of €60 million for the Transnistrian region.
For the gas consumed by the people living on the left bank of the Nistru between February 1 and 10, the European Union allocated €20 million earlier, out of a grant of €30 million provided to the Republic of Moldova to cope with the energy crisis.
"The money from the European grant offered free of charge since February 1 has been used in full. The government, together with the European Union, solved a serious problem created by Russia. The people saw what Russia means and what it means to have the European Union by your side," said Prime Minister Dorin Recean.
