Tiraspol proposes paying for gas supplies through "intermediaries". Chișinău considers the option

Tiraspol wants to pay for the purchase and transportation of gas to the border of the Republic of Moldova through intermediary companies. In this case, "Tiraspoltransgaz" would pay only for the transit of gas through the territory of the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports, citing the Bureau of Reintegration.

“In the context of the energy and social crisis in the eastern districts of the Republic of Moldova caused by the suspension of natural gas deliveries by ‘Gazprom’ under the contract with SA ‘Moldovagaz,’ the Moldovan authorities have proposed a compromise solution. This entails ‘Moldovagaz’ purchasing natural gas on the local market and supplying it to the Transnistrian region. The main condition is that the ‘Tiraspoltransgaz’ enterprise must pay for these deliveries,” the Bureau of Reintegration stated.

Tiraspol responded by expressing its willingness to accept deliveries through “Moldovagaz” but proposed an additional condition: payment for the purchase and transportation of gas to the border of the Republic of Moldova should be handled by third-party companies. In this case, “Tiraspoltransgaz” would only pay for the transit of gas through Moldovan territory.

The authorities in Chișinău are analyzing this proposal, assessing its compliance with national and international legislation. The Bureau of Reintegration Policies announced that it would provide further details as the situation evolves.

It remains unclear whether the parties will reach an agreement that ensures gas supplies to the Transnistrian region while respecting the legal norms of the Republic of Moldova.
