Tiraspol cutting signal to Chisinau TV channels
Starting November 1, people in the Transnistrian region can't watch the Chisinau-based Publika TV and Tiraspol intends to also ban the national channel Moldova 1 from December 1, Info-Prim Neo reports.
After a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Eugen Carpov in Chisinau, Tiraspol's chief negotiator Nina Shtanski told reporters this was a reaction to the failure to reach an understanding on the broadcasting of two Transnistrian TV channels on the western side of the Nistru.
Nina Shtanski said that if no middle ground was reached on the issue until December 1, people in the Transnistrian region would not be able to watch Moldova 1 as well. “I see we have a very complicated situation here, because no progress has been observed on the matter”.
Eugen Carpov for his part stated he saw no reasons for banning TV channels from the Transnistrian region as long as they met the requirements of the Broadcasting Coordination Council. He added that Chisinau and Tiraspol would get back to the issue to find a solution.
Eugen Carpov and Nina Shtanski held a working meeting on Friday at the premises of the OSCE Mission to Moldova.
