Timofti says natural political disputes take place inside AEI
Moldova’s President Nicolae Timofti is monitoring the developments in Parliament and in the Alliance for European Integration (AEI). He considers that such disputes and confrontations of ideas are natural in a democratic society. It is important that the political interests of the parties are as close to the national interests as possible, while the political confrontations shouldn’t represent an impediment to achieving the country’s strategic objectives, it is said in a communiqué from the presidential press service, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
The head of state voiced confidence that the political reason will triumph as last year, when they managed to unlock the protracted political crisis, and they will find democratic solutions so as to overcome the conflict situation.
Earlier, the head of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu called on the head of state to intervene and help solve the crisis situation in the AEI, using his constitutional powers.
The confrontations between the PLDM and PDM in the AEI became more acute after the tragic hunting incident in the Domneasca Forest, as a result of which Prosecutor General Valeriu Zubko resigned. After an extraordinary meeting of Parliament, in which the Libe-Dems refused to take part, the Democratic Party chairman Marian Lupu accused his Liberal-Democratic colleagues of acting in collusion with the Communists in order to obtain the dismissal of First Deputy Speaker Vlad Plahotniuc, who is a member of the PDM. He also said that the PLDM wants early elections this year. The Liberal-Democratic leader Vlad Filat denied this.
