Three people are investigated for embezzling public funds totaling 4 million lei within a project funded by the European Union, IPN reports, with reference to the National Anticorruption Center.
According to the Center, the case involves the former head of the Projects Implementation Unit attached to "Moldsilva" Agency, a representative of the contractor and a representative of the design company. They are suspected of fraudulently managing over 10 million lei in the process of restoring a number of buildings in "Prutul de Jos" Reserve in Slobozia Mare village of Cahul district.
The preliminary examinations showed that the economic agent spent only 3.7 million lei on the reconstruction of a building and the design of a garage worth a total of 7.4 million lei, appropriating the difference.
In this connection, “Moldsilva” Agency issued a press release, saying that the alleged illegalities were committed between 2014 and 2016. It noted that it provides all the necessary support to the investigative bodies in elucidating all the circumstances, holding those to blame accountable and determining the damage caused to "Prutul de Jos" Reserve and “Moldsilva” Agency.
