If snap parliamentary elections were held, three parties would enter the legislative body. The Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) would poll 28.5% of the vote, the Bloc of Communists and Socialists (BCS) – 25%, while the Chance Party - 11%, shows the Sociopolitical Barometer for December 2023, which was presented by the sociological research company IMAS. The survey shows that 4.2% of those surveyed would not vote, while 13.6% don’t know or didn’t answer.
IMAS director general Doru Petruți, in a news conference hosted by IPN, said that 34.7% of the respondents with a voting option would vote for the PAS, 30.5% - for the BCS, while 13.5% – for the Chance Party.
As regards the country’s external orientation., most of the respondents - 46% - want a balanced orientation - good relations both with Russia and the Europeans. If a referendum on Moldova’s entry into the EU was held, 55% of those surveyed would vote for.
According to Doru Petruți, a particular optimistic note is seen among the population as regards the moods. 37% of those surveyed consider that things in the country go right. 58% believe the direction is wrong. Those who are satisfied with the living conditions represent 30%, while over 40% are dissatisfied or very dissatisfied with the living standards.
18% of those interviewed consider the local elections were not at all free and fair. 5% believe they were free and fair to a small extent, 24% consider they were free and fair to a great or very great extent, while 27% said these were fully free and fair.
64% of those questioned said they do not trust the Central Election Commission. Doru Petruți said a large part of the respondents consider that the Parliament Speaker, the Premier, the ministers and other functionaries favor the PAS and the candidates of this party. Up to 50% of those polled believe that there was such inference. Also, 42% of the respondents think that pressure was exerted on public sector employees for these to vote for the PAS and its candidates.
As regards the President, 26% of the respondents believe that Vladimir Voronin was the best President Moldova had up to now. Igor Dodon and Maia Sandu gained almost the same score – 22.9% and, respectively, 22.5%, while Mircea Snegur was mentioned by 10.3% of those surveyed.
One third of the respondents believe that Maia Sandu deserves to hold one more term in office, while 62% consider that another person should hold this post. 45% said the promise to advance towards the EU was fulfilled greatly or fully. Two thirds of those questioned said the presidential election should be held simultaneously with snap parliamentary elections.
The poll also revealed that if presidential elections were held next Sunday, Maia Sandu would gain 30% of the ballot, Igor Dodon – 24%, Ion Ceban – 8%. 37% of the respondents consider that Igor Doodn would be the main challenger of Maia Sandu at the presidential election of 2024.
The survey was commissioned by Public Media. It was carried out during November 29 - December 16, 2023 and covered a sample of 954 persons. The margin of sampling error is ±3.2%.
