Officers of the National Anticorruption Center and anticorruption prosecutors arrested three persons from northern Moldova on suspicion of passive corruption and influence peddling. The suspects include a police officer, IPN reports.
In one case, a post chief of the Police Inspectorate of Rascani district was caught in the act of taking 4,000 lei from a person for helping this person’s son avoid punishment. The policeman was placed under arrest for 72 hours and faces up to ten years in jail and a fine of up to 160,000 lei.
The other two men from Ocnita will spend 72 hours in the remand unit of the National Anticorruption Center. The two are suspected of asking for €200 from a local for exempting him from punishment for committing a road accident. According to the denouncer, the two men said they have influence over prosecutors. They two are investigated for traffic of influence and face up to seven years in jail.
