The local elections scheduled for June 3 are the most important since the independence of Moldova was proclaimed, because it will start the demolition of communism, Serafim Urecheanu, the leader of “Moldova Noastra” Alliance told a news conference on Tuesday, April 17. In his words, the task of MNA is to win local elections, and by 2009 to govern the country. According to the cited source, out of 898 mayoralties, MNA has candidates in 778, of which 49 independent candidates. The list of local councillors was prepared for 793 mayoralties, and in 21 raions, the lists for the raion councils were already presented. Urecheanu has also announced that MNA will support the MP Leonid Bujor for the office of Chisinau Mayor, expressing his trust that Bujor will win the elections, because he worked several years in the administration of Chisinau, including as Centru district pretor. Leonid Bujor told the same conference that MNA has already presented the list of 56 candidates for the offices of councillors. The list includes 15 women and 10 students. It also includes teachers, doctors, lawyers, economists, university professors etc, including 4 councillors from the present Council. Bujor mentioned in this respect the councillors Victor Savin, director of Hospital No.1, municipal councillor Oleg Cernei and Pavel Caba. The first on this list is Serafim Ureceheanu. MNA announced that the Party became full-member of the European Liberal Democrat and Reform Party. Urecheanu mentioned that this fact creates favourable conditions for knocking down communism in Moldova.
