The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office completed the investigation into a case of passive corruption involving a prosecutor from Floresti and sent the case to court. The prosecutor was placed under house arrest, with the Supreme Council of Prosecutors suspending him from post, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, legal action on this case was taken by Prosecutor General Corneliu Gurin, based on a complaint submitted by a person who said that the prosecutor asked for 2,000 lei from him in exchange for dropping the charges of theft against him.
Upon a search of the prosecutor’s office, there was found the money that was transmitted by the denouncer the same day. It was later established that earlier the prosecutor asked for €3,000 from a man for not arresting him on domestic violence charges.
The case was remitted to the Floresti District Court. This is the third prosecutor arrested for acts of corrupting so far this year.
