There are preconditions for snap elections to take place in safe epidemiological conditions, specialists

There are all the preconditions for the snap parliamentary elections to be held in a favorable epidemiological context, said specialists who expect that the vaccination rate by July 11 will rise to at least 20% and the elections could be this way conducted in safe conditions. However, all the protection measures should be obeyed, including wearing of masks, maintaining of physical distancing, disinfection of hands and continuous airing of polling stations, IPN reports.

According to the coordinator of the national vaccination campaign Ninel Revenco, the exemplary mobilization of the authorities in the health sector and the citizens’ wish to get a vaccine led to an exponential rise in the immunization rate. If this pace is maintained, there are preconditions for the snap parliamentary elections to be held in a safe environment.

“At the moment, the municipality of Chisinau holds the lead with a vaccination rate of over 15%. The general vaccination rate in the country is of 10%. Until July, if the same vaccination pace as last week is maintained, with 100,000 doses administered during a week, we will reach a rate of 20%, this being an acceptable rate for the proper conduct of elections,” Ninel Revenco stated in the talk show “Emphasis on Today” on TVR Moldova channel

According to the deputy head of the Chisinau City Hall’s Health Division Boris Gâlca, the sanitary restrictions will remain valid for the period of the election campaign so as to prevent a new explosion in infections after the elections.

“All the public health measures will be kept, even if Chisinau is now in the “yellow zone” and even if some of the districts are already in the “green zone”. The maintaining of physical distancing and wearing of masks in closed places will remain in force. From epidemiological viewpoint, there are preconditions for the elections to be held in a safe context,” stated Boris Gâlca.

Over 400,000 persons have been vaccinated in Moldova since the immunization campaign was launched on March 2. The vaccination rate in the municipality of Chisinau is the highest - over 140,000 vaccinated persons.
