The 25-year-old, who set a house on fire in the village of Mereșeni, Hâncești district on November 25, 2018, which caused the death of three teenagers, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for murder and theft of cell phones belonging to the victims. Prosecutors do not agree with the sentence given by the Hâncești Court and say they will contest it in the Court of Appeal to request a life sentence, IPN reports.
According to a press release issued by the Prosecutor General's Office, the crime took place due to a misunderstanding that occurred between the perpetrator and the teenagers aged 15 - 17 - two boys and a girl - after consuming alcoholic beverages. It is also mentioned that the young man used physical force and inflicted blows with an axe on the three teenagers, after which he set fire to the house.
Two adolescents, a girl and a boy, were found charred, with signs of violent death, in the burned down house, the third was rushed to the hospital, where he died within a few days. In the course of a day the suspect was identified, he turned out to be a resident of Caracui village. Being examined, the young man admitted his guilt, stating that he knew the victims through social networks, and on November 24 he paid them a visit, where they consumed alcohol. A misunderstanding degenerated into a dispute, and the suspect struck the three young people with an axe and set fire to the house.
