The world is more obese than starving. Moldova is vice versa
American researchers of the obesity problem have recently come to a shocking result: the number of corpulent persons has surpassed the number of malnourished persons.
The number of obese persons reached approximately 1 billion, while the number of starving persons is 800 million. The number of corpulent pupils and students is increasing in the USA, Europe and Asian countries.
The World Health Organization has announced that every 10th pupil is overweight. There are 155 million obese children in the whole world, and 45 million are aged between 5 and 17. The USA could lose its leading position as the world’s most corpulent country. For example, 25% of South Africa’s school girls are overweight, the proportion of corpulent pupils from Southern and Northern Europe is 30% and 15%, respectively, and in Italy this ration reaches 36%.
The researchers do not have any solutions to this problem. One possible solution is to increase the weight of toys, so that children get used to physical efforts. Another solution is to ban commercials of unhealthy food and to increase prices for fast-food products.
According to information from the Organization for Cooperation and Economic Development (OCDE), the most obese country is the USA, where 306 persons out of 1000 are overweight, followed by countries like Mexico (242 of 1000), the UK (230), Australia (227), Slovenia (224), Greece (219) and New Zealand (209).
Sources from the Press Service of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection told Info-Prim Neo that Moldova’s situation is still good at this chapter. Information from January 1 2006 shows that there are 14 800 obese persons registered in Moldova, meaning a ratio of 4 persons out of 1000.
