The preliminary hearings of the Chisinau’s ex-Mayor, Serafim Urecheanu were scheduled for this Friday, April 14 but were postponed for May 3. At the lawsuit of Serafim Urecheanu, his lawyer and the prosecutor were present but a judge was missing. The president of the chamber of judges Nadejada Mazur announced the chamber is formed of the judges Nicolae Costin and Geta Kistol, the last one is on a sick leave. Nadejda Mazur intentioned to postpone the hearings for the next week, but the attorney, Vasile Rahlea, declared he has a very busy schedule and he is available only on May 3. Urecheanu is suspected of exceeding his service limits competence in the case of purchasing ambulances for the Emergency Hospital. Before the hearing from Friday, Serafim Urecheanu declared, quoted by Info-Prim Neo, during 11 years as General Mayor he always respected the law and the decisions of the Municipal Council, without exceeding his attributions, inclusively in the matters of financial resources allocated by the Council. He denied the fact that he prejudiced the budget with 3 million lei in the case of the ambulance purchase. According to him, on the contrary, his actions allowed to save budgetary resources amounting to the sum he is accused of spending. After the communists won the first elections, says Serafim Urecheanu” countless controls were made by the specialized bodies, but no one found any infringements upon the ambulance purchase case. Reffering to the order that names him as a suspect, the quoted source declared this document is full of mistakes and inaccuracies and that he wants to prove during the lawsuit. Serafim Urecheanu is sure that the “ambulance case” has the specific character to waken people’s dignity, as it happened, according to him, in the case of the “law officers and will revive the process of healing the independence of justice.” The prosecutors and the judges didn’t give any declarations for the press.
