The EU urges Tiraspol to cooperate with Chisinau

This week, a meeting of the working group on energy issues will take place, with the participation of representatives from the European Commission and the Government of Moldova, aiming to find a solution to the issue of energy resource supplies across the entire territory of the country.

This was announced by European Commission spokesperson Anna-Kaisa Itkonen during a briefing in Brussels on January 6.

According to the European Commission, the working group on energy issues with Moldova will convene "later this week" at a technical level.

"We have created a working group with Moldova to assist them in addressing the current challenges. This group last met on December 18, and it will convene again at a technical level later this week," said Anna-Kaisa Itkonen.

She noted that "measures have also been taken to facilitate electricity exchanges through existing networks" with the EU to ensure that these networks can be used to deliver more electricity if needed.

"At the same time, we call on all EU member states to demonstrate solidarity with Moldova," added Anna-Kaisa Itkonen.

She also stated that during the working group's meeting this week, the European side will listen to Moldovan representatives and learn about their priority needs to resolve the energy crisis.

"As we understand it, the Government of Moldova has already offered electricity as well as humanitarian aid to Transnistria, which has so far not been accepted. We urge Tiraspol to cooperate with Chisinau to resolve the situation in the interests of the local population," added European Commission spokesperson.
