The banks attracted over MDL 1.5 bln term deposits from individuals and businessmen
Those 15 commercial banks of Moldova attracted from individuals and businessmen term deposits totalling MDL 1.56 bln in December 2006. As in the case of the granted loans, the volume of term deposits is the highest in the last year.
Data provided by the National Bank show that the value of term deposits in MDL attracted over the reporting period totalled MDL 713.2 mln, by MDL 143.7 mln more as compared to November 2006. This increase was due to the growth in deposits attracted from individuals by MDL 90.9 mln (18.5%), as well as deposits attracted from businessmen – by MDL 52.8 mln (66.9%).
At the same time, the share of term deposits from individuals diminished from 86.2% in November to 81.5% of the total value of term deposits in national currency attracted over the reporting month.
In December 2006 the average interest rate of term deposits in MDL increased by 0.32 percentage points and constituted 13.4% (8.75% by businessmen, and 14.46% by individuals).
During the analysed period, the value of term deposits in foreign currency amounted to MDL 847.4 mln (USD 64.8 mln), increasing by MDL 131 mln (18.3%) due to the growth by MDL 62 mln, or by 9.6% of deposits from individuals, as well as of the deposits from economic agents – by MDL 69.0 mln, or by 96.2%.
The average interest rate on term deposits in foreign currency went up 0.44 percentage points and constituted 5.62% (4.83% by businesses and 5.78% by individuals).
