The Alternativa political bloc, announced today by three parties and former presidential candidate Stoianoglo, aims to capture center-left votes and prevent vote fragmentation among these parties. Specifically, because these votes could be the "golden votes" in the next Parliament, which will decide which way the balance will tip – whether there will be a pro-European majority or a pro-Russian majority. This is the commentary of the president of the WatchDog.MD Community, Valeriu Pasa, who mentions that this is a repeat of the strategy successfully implemented for many years by the former Democratic leader Vlad Plahotniuc, IPN reports.
In his view, it is not surprising that these politicians have united, as they share very similar, duplicitous rhetoric. "They try to pretend to be pro-European, but, for example, we see how Mr. Stoianoglo was promoted and supported (in the presidential elections) by the socialists led by Igor Dodon. The main question that they, or those who created this bloc, will have to answer is – is Plahotniuc and Palton behind this bloc or not, and thus their ties to these two fugitive oligarchs," says Valeriu Pasa.
According to him, these questions are relevant. "We saw Igor Dodon's hints recently, where he practically accused Ceban of bringing Plahotniuc back into politics or that, through Ceban, Plahotniuc will return to politics. Dodon was probably referring exactly to the creation of this bloc," says the WatchDog.MD leader.
The expert finds it interesting that neither Renato Usatîi nor Irina Vlah are part of this bloc. "We will see in the next few months if that changes. And, in general, if this bloc will survive because there are personalities with strong egos. We’ll see how well Ion Chicu and Ion Ceban can work as a team," mentions Valeriu Pasa.
He also added that the name approved for the bloc clearly shows who the leader is. "This is a bloc led by Ion Ceban. The bloc took the name of Ion Ceban's party, so Stoianoglo, Chicu, Tkaciuk, and others seem to have a subordinate role. If that’s the case, then Ceban has received the blessing of very influential behind-the-scenes forces that will oblige Stoianoglo, Tkaciuk, and others to follow him faithfully," Valeriu Pasa, president of WatchDog.MD, concluded.
