The unilateral setting up of checkpoints between Varnita and Severnyi quarter of Bender town last night is aimed at eliminating any official presence of Moldova in Bender and at strengthening the anticonstitutional regime, considers expert in the Transnistrian problem Oazu Nantoi.
He stated for IPN that during over 20 years Moldova showed that it knows only to make concessions. Thus, the secessionist Transnistrian regime has no reason to believe that the Moldovan authorities will repost or that somebody will be caught, arrested or brought to trial for the usurpation of the state power. The bilateral format of the negotiations is a trap for Moldova and no political result can be achieved within it.
Radu Vrabie, expert of the Foreign Policy Association, has told IPN that the challenges on the part of the Transnistrian administration became more often and one of their aims is to test the Moldovan authorities’ capacity to react.
According to Radu Vrabie, the political situation in Chisinau is in favor of those who resort to causing such tensions. These challenges may be aimed at making the internal situation in Moldova even tenser so as to cause early elections and push to power forces that consider the Eurasian integration a foreign policy priority.
Last night, the Transnistrian administration decided to unilaterally set up checkpoints near Varnita village. They argued that this way they try to stop smuggling. After almost six hours, the checkpoints were removed.
