The cleanup tax in the municipality of Chisinau has been canceled. The decision was approved by the votes of 26 councilors of the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC), IPN reports.
Zinaida Popa, head of the PAS group on the CMC, said that the cleanup tax was canceled because the people did not know what they were paying for.
"We repealed the decision on the application of local taxes for 2025 and voted for a decision to cancel the sanitation tax of 120 lei, which each Chisinau resident paid and no one understood what they had to pay for," said Zinaida Popa.
The councilors of the Party of Socialists also said that this tax became a burden for the residents of Chisinau.
"Until now, the tax was 120 lei for one year. This tax was introduced on the initiative of Ion Ceban and became a financial burden for a significant part of the population," reads the PSRM’s statement.
The cleanup tax for Chisinau residents, in the amount of 10 lei per month or 120 lei annually, was imposed in 2021. Asked for a reaction, representatives of the Chisinau City Hall said that they will soon provide information on the subject.
