Thanks to the Eu4Culture project, the municipality of Cahul benefited from funds to the value of €300,000, deputy mayor of the municipality Tatiana Romaniuc stated in a public debate staged by IPN News Agency. According to her, the European money was invested in the modernization of the cultural infrastructure in Cahul and in the organization of large-scale cultural events.

The EU-funded Eu4Culture project aims to support the role of culture as an engine for growth and social development in the Eastern Partnership countries. According to the deputy mayor of Cahul, the municipality benefited from funds that increased its attractiveness by organizing exceptional cultural events.

“There were two stages of the project. At the first stage, we obtained €30,000 that helped us develop a culture strategy in Cahul, for the years 2022-2030. The amount of €300,000 is the grant we obtained as a result of this competition of strategies. In Cahul, the cultural offer has always been diverse. We have cultural events with a history of decades, such as the International Folklore Festival of the White Water Lily, which last year reached its 17th edition. The grant helped us to organize this festival last year, in a broader way. Likewise, this grant supported us in organizing another important festival for Cahul - the Crescendo International Classical Music Festival, which reached its 11th edition last year,” said the deputy mayor of Cahul.

Thanks to European funds, the Eu4Culture International Forum, an international painting camp for amateurs and artists, book launches and leisure activities in the city’s districts were organized.

“This year, from the money we obtained, we organized an International Culture Forum that was attended by guests from all over the country, specialists in the field, directors of Houses of Culture, MPs, experts. It was an important event for the locality and for culture. Also, this summer we organized an international painting camp, in which we had 20 plastic artists from our country, from Romania and Ukraine as participants,” stated Tatiana Romaniuc, noting that they hope to exhibit the works of these plastic artists at a multifunctional center that is to be created in Cahul soon.

European funds were also invested in the cultural infrastructure of Cahul municipality. Most of the funds were allocated for the outfitting of the Palace of Culture in Cahul with modern equipment.

“We managed to equip the Great Hall of “Nicolae Botgros” Palace of Culture in Cahul, which is a true cultural hub, with modern sound and light equipment. It is a very important investment for us. Furniture was purchased for the organization of various outdoor activities. We managed to install tourist information signs. We have developed all kinds of promotional and visibility materials. Many things have been done and we are going to work at the same pace,” explained Tatiana Romaniuc.

The public debate entitled “EU investments in the cultural sector of the Republic of Moldova” was the ninth installment of the project “Benefits of the Republic of Moldova’s accession to the EU for people, community and country”. The project is supported by Soros Foundation Moldova.
