Talks in 5+2 format may be resumed while Lithuania will hold OSCE Chairmanship
The problem of the formal talks in the 5+2 format can be solved while Lithuania will hold the OSCE Chairmanship. The issue was discussed by Moldova’s Acting President Marian Lupu and the President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite, who was in Moldova on a visit on July 13, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the presidential press service.
Marian Lupu spoke about the initiatives and proposals aimed at building confidence between the two banks of the Nistru and the removal of barriers hindering the free movement of persons, goods and services. He voiced hope that progress will be made in the talks on Moldova’s reunification while Lithuania will hold the OSCE Chairmanship.
Dalia Grybauskaite said that Moldova is expected to join the EU, but there is a long road to be covered. He stressed that Lithuania is able to provide support in this respect. Lithuanian experts work in Moldova and offer assistance in implementing reforms in the legal system, the customs service, the agricultural sector and other areas.
He reiterated that ensuring political stability should be Moldova’s main objective. Both the politicians and the people of Moldova should realize that the European integration is a common objective and the European aspirations can be achieved only this way.
Dalia Grybauskaite also had a meeting with Prime Minister Vlad Filat. The Premier said that the Moldovan-Lithuanian relations have always been friendly, with Lithuania providing constant support to Moldova. He spoke about the reform of the legal system, underlining that it is of the utmost importance.
For his part, Dalia Grybauskaite said that Lithuania covered practically the same path to the EU as Moldova. “Our countries have many things in common and thus we are ready to share our experience with you,” he stated.
