The tablet PCs ested in traffic by the traffic police this month turned out to be effective, the deputy head of the General Police Inspectorate Sergiu Diaconu has told IPN. The first experiences showed that the project provides a number of advantages, both to patrolling inspectors and to drivers.
After the information software was tested, the table PCs started to be used in practice. The tablets record the committed violation automatically, while the data is sent to a common localization and monitoring center. The driver who broke the traffic rules will receive a letter with the police report and proofs at home. “Since the tablet PCs started to be used, the number of fines increased essentially, while the number of challenges decreased as there appeared conclusive evidence,” said Sergiu Diaconu.
According to him, this innovation is designed to contribute to combating corruption in the traffic police. The National Patrolling Inspectorate is cooperating with international development partners in providing the inspectors with sufficient tablet PCs. If this doesn’t happen, the Inspectorate will announce a public tender contest.
The traffic inspectors from all over the county will be trained how to correctly use the tablet PCs. “By the end of the year, the inspectors from all the country’s regions will have to start using tablet PCs. This does not yet apply to inspectors who aren’t instructed to use such computers,” said Sergiu Diaconu.
Several tablet PCs are now tested in traffic in the northern and southern districts of Moldova. Most of them were put on trial in the municipality of Chisinau, where the necessity is greater. The General Police Inspectorate needs 300 such computers in order to outfit the traffic inspectors in all the county’s regions.
