Supreme Council of Magistrates should play a more important role, Marian Lupu
Head of Parliament Marian Lupu discussed the reform of the legal system and the role of the Supreme Council of Magistrates with members of the Council during his first visit to the institution on July 26, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“I decided to pay this visit in order to discuss two sets of problems with the Council’s members – what shall we do to make progress with the justice reform that is seriously debated by the national council for the reform of the legal system, and the functioning and role of the Council. We should not forget that the Supreme Council of Magistrates is the body that administers the third power in the state – the judicial power,” Marian Lupu told the press.
He said that the Council should play a more important role and this role should be strengthened by law. He stressed that the judicial system must enjoy real autonomy, but should also bear overall responsibility.
Marian Lupu and the Council’s members also discussed the unification of the budgeting and financial support system in justice. “The Constitution says the budget of the legal system is adopted separately, by Parliament Decision. This principle has been violated for many years,” he stated.
The Head of Parliament asked that the Council’s member actively involve in the promotion of the reform of justice. He said that a number of meetings of the kind will be held in the future in order to strengthen cooperation.
