The study concerning the municipal solid water collection tubes that continue to be used in some of the apartment buildings in the municipality of Chisinau will be ready at the end of this month. It will contain data about the number of buildings where such tubes are used, the type of platforms that will be built instead of them and alternative proposals if the dwellers are against the elimination of these tubes.
Contacted by IPN, Vasile Efros, head of the Cleanup and Local Development Section of the Public Amenities Division, said that over 1,700 municipal solid water collection tubes have been so far identified in residential buildings.
These will be removed only if most of the dwellers are in favor. Those who oppose the removal should not exceed 30%. Technical conditions should be created for building waste collection platforms and for ensuring the garbage trucks’ access to them.
If the dwellers do not want the tubes to be removed, the Public Amenities Division will propose closing the tubes and modernizing the waste collection room so as to place a closed-type container. Only those who will have a special access card will be able to throw waste there.
After it is finalized, the study will be discussed by the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC). A sum of 10 million lei was earmarked in the municipal budget for implementing the project.
The draft decision on the elimination of municipal solid water collection tubes and building of separate waste collection platforms near those buildings was adopted by the CMC this February.
