Students will be able to vote in settlements where they study

The school and university students with the right to vote will be able to vote in any polling place established in the settlements where they study, no matter where they have the domicile or residence. A bill to this effect, which was put forward by the Liberal Democratic Party, was passed in the second reading in the last sitting of the Parliament’s spring-summer session, on July 12, IPN reports.

Under the bill, the students will vote with the identity card accompanied by the lose leaf and with the student card of the institution from the given settlement and will sign a statement promising to abstain from multiple voting. They will be informed about criminal liability if they do not keep this promise.

The electoral bureau will be able to decide whether to extend the voting deadline by at most two hours so as to enable the voters who queue up to mark their ballots. It will inform the district election council of the Central Election Commission about the extension.

More than 120,000 young people in Moldova study not in the settlement where they have the domicile.
