The lawyer of the students from “Gheorghe Asachi” Lyceum, interrogated by the police for tearing the inscription “Moldovan” off the institution’s frontispiece, affirms that the case must be stopped. Gheorghe Starcea, also the father of one of the students, declared last week that at the “Gheorghe Asachi” lyceum any offences has not been committed and the students expressed their rights. The police office of the Centru district from Chisinau started proceedings in the case of breaking the inscription of the of the lyceum’s frontispiece in conformity with the article 287(2) of the Penal Code. The last week a group of students removed the word “Moldovan” from the new inscription posted up by the administration of the institution, as a protest act regarding the modification of the lyceum’s entitling from “Romanian-French” to “Moldo-French”. 4 students who allegedly committed the offense, as police qualifies, “an act of group hooliganism” were summoned to come at the police station to give depositions. The head police officer of the commissariat Dumitru Rusu declared to the press that police is analyzing this case at the request of the lyceum’s principal. The material damage caused by the students is estimated at about 2000 lei. Meanwhile, the administration of the lyceum addressed to police a petition which informs that the institution has no complaints regarding the damage, the parents paid all the expenses for installing the inscription. The principal of the Lyceum, Boris Volosatyi says that he was obliged to inform the police, as the head of a public institution.
