The People’s Assembly of Gagauzia approved the structure of the Executive Committee, with a vote on the nominal composition to follow.

The approval was not without controversy. After some heated debates, the new Governor Yevgenya Gutsul, who proposed the Committee, walked out in anger, but came back shortly.

The Gagauz lawmakers agreed to vote on the structure on condition that Gutsul would submit proposals by mid-November to optimize the Committee.

The lawmakers also had questions about several candidates proposed by the governor to serve on the Committee, in particular about their poor command of the Gagauz language. As a result, it was agreed to postpone the vote on the nominal makeup until the next meeting.

The law allows the governor of Gagauzia to dissolve the People’s Assembly if the proposed executive committee is not installed within 45 days.
