Strong winds and hail damage houses in a number of districts

The July 3 torrential rain with high winds and hail damaged over 160 houses in 34 settlements of 12 districts of Moldova, IPN reports, with reference to the General Inspectorate for Emergencies.

A number of 111 rescuers with 33 special vehicles dealt with 24 cases of blocking of roads by trees and utility poles downed by the strong winds.

District emergencies commissions are working at the scene to gauge the extent of the caused damage. The conclusions will be later presented to the national emergencies commission. “When all the data are amassed, solutions will be looked for to help those affected,” said the Inspectorate.

The chief of the General Inspectorate for Emergencies Mihail Harabagiu called on the population to supervise the children and protect them from lightning. Rescuers warn against using mobile phones and staying under trees during thunderstorms. Damaged electrical cables should be avoided.

The firefighters and rescuers continue to alleviate the consequences of the storm in all the stricken districts.
