The majority of voting-eligible citizens on the left bank of the Nistru River voted for the candidate supported by the Party of Socialists, Alexandr Stoianoglo. With all the vote reports for the region (30) counted, the results show that he gained 35.41% of the poll. For the PAS candidate Maia Sandu, by 10% fewer citizens voted - 25.21%. Irina Vlah gained 15.70% of the ballot, IPN reports.
Some 7.41% voted for Victoria Furtună, who is followed by Renato Usatyi with 7.16%. 5.88% voted for Vasile Tarlev, while Ion Chicu won 1.21% of the vote. Four candidates did not garner even 1% of the ballot: Natalia Morari – 0.81%, Octavian Țîcu – 0.52%, Andrei Năstase – 0.40%, and Tudor Ulyanovski – 0.31%.
On the left bank of the Dniester, more than 16 thousand voters turned out to vote, most of them being women – 54.35%. Most voters were aged between 56 and 65 years, followed by those in the 36-46 age category. And young people, from 18 to 25 years old, made up only 5% of voters.
Countrywide, with 98.47% of the vote reports counted, Maia Sandu is the leader with 42.04% of the vote. Alexandr Stoianoglo gained 26.27% of the poll.
According to the Electoral Code, if none of the candidates for the office of President of the Republic of Moldova gains at least half of the poll, a runoff vote between the two candidates who obtained most of the votes in the first round of voting is held in two weeks of the date of the first round.
