Stoianoglo: I don’t understand what crimes I have committed

Alexandr Stoianoglo says that he doesn’t understand what crimes he has committed and that he can answer any questions from either the public or politicians, “but nobody listens”. The suspended Prosecutor General stated this while talking to reporters as the Chisinau Court of Appeals was reviewing his arrest.

Alexandr Stoianoglo stated he was appointed to the job following a competition process organized by the current government. “I said from the very beginning I’m not stepping down. We’ve created a team that has important views on how to essentially and cardinally change prosecution policies”, stated Stoianoglo.

The appeal session started at 1:00PM, as a small crowd of supporters, including Com-Soc lawmakers, gathered outside to demand “freedom for the Prosecutor General”.

Alexandr Stoianoglo was detained on October 5 and subsequently placed under house arrest on charges of abuse of office, bribery, perjury, and facilitation of an organized criminal group. The suspended PG denies any wrongdoing, as the critics of his arrest say the criminal case against him is politically motivated.
