Spring sowing done on 12% of planned area
The spring sowing has been accomplished on 96,000 ha (12%) of those 776,000 planned, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Minister for Agriculture and Food Industry Anatolie Gorodenco, on Wednesday, April 9, told the Government’s sitting 30,400 tonnes of seeds – 97.7 % of the necessary amount – were stored for the successful spring sowing. In addition, the UN Development Program bought 826 tonnes of seeds, which are now distributed in 31 Moldovan raions, as over 86,000 poorer farmers were selected to get by 10 kg of corn seeds.
The Government has bought 3,600 tonnes of diesel fuel and distributes it to farmers: by 5 liters per ha. All in all, 14,700 tonnes of diesel fuel are necessary to make the spring sowing drive successful. The farmers have in store 45,000 tonnes of pesticides and fertilizers – 90% of the necessary amount.
According to Anatolie Gorodenco, 1,768 ha of new orchards, 140 ha of walnut trees and 169 ha of vineyards have been planted this year, while sowing vegetables and tobacco in greenhouses has ended.
The Minister has appreciated that the state of the fall plantations on those 503,000 ha is mostly satisfactory. The fields seeded with bread wheat will be monitored till the harvest.
