Sports vouchers for employees to be introduced

Employers will be able to give their employees sports vouchers. Parliament approved in the first reading a bill that regulates this type of vouchers as an instrument similar to meal vouchers.

One will be able to use the sports vouchers to attend fitness facilities, swimming pools or for practicing amateur sports at various sports facilities, at football stadiums or tennis courts. They will be issued by the employer, for each working day, having a certain nominal value.

At the same time, the bill provides for the extension of the right to direct 2% of taxable income and the deduction for tax purposes of donations made to registered sports federations, sports clubs or amateur sports associations.

This bill aims to encourage amateur sporting activities in Moldova and thus help to improve the general public’s well-being, among other objectives.

The bill’s drafters cite studies which show that only 37% of Moldovans do some exercise. Of those 37%, only 11% exercise at least once a week, and 20% exercise daily.
