Spiridon Vangheli nominated for 2016 Astrid Lindgren Award

Writer Spiridon Vangheli was nominated for the 2016 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, which is the most important global award in the area of children’s literature. The writer is the only Moldovan nominated for this award, the Embassy of Sweden in Chisinau has said, quoted by IPN.

More than 200 authors, illustrators and promoters of the children’s literature from 59 states, including Sweden, the UK, Belgium, Germany, France, Denmark and the U.S, aspire to this award. The winner of the 2016 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award will be announced in Stockholm on April 5.

Spiridon Vangheli is famous in Moldova and abroad for his books about Guguta, who is a suggestive emblematic child personage. His books were translated and printed by prestigious publishing houses from the U.S., Germany, Japan, Hungary, Finland and other countries. The writer was conferred the diploma of honor Hans Christian Andersen, the State Award of Moldova, the Order of the Republic of Moldova and the Prize of the Writers’ Union of Romania. He is a people’s writer.
