The special response police unit “Fulger” (“Lightning”) celebrates its 15th anniversary on Tuesday, December 5. On this occasion, the Fulger unit will pay homage to the policemen who laid down their lives in action and also the members of the elite unit will show their fighting skills. According to the commander of “Fulger” Brigade, police lieutenant-colonel Grigore Cojocaru, the officers of this subdivision contributed to tracking down 276 felonies in the last 11 months of 2006, arrested 584 suspects, including 176 wanted persons, and found out 75 stolen cars. The policemen confiscated 19 guns, cartridges, side arms, as well as 4 kg of marijuana and 15 kg of quicksilver. 94 automobiles illegally transporting goods over the customs points were found out with the help of the “Fulger” Special Police Brigade and also 9 penal proceedings were initiated, 50 official reports were drawn, being given fines of about MDL 17 thousand.
