Moldova had the occasion during the last few years to grow confident in the efficiency of the reformed International Francophony Organization (IFO), Marian Lupu, Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova declared during his speech at the 11th reunion of the heads of state and government of IFO member countries, which takes place these days in Bucharest. Moldova has supported together with other countries, the institutional modernization of IFO, which is sanctioned by the Francophony Charter, which ensures the organization’s transformation into a basic pillar of the multilateral francophone system, the speaker declared. Among the support actions of OIF provided to Moldova, Marian Lupu mentioned about the monitoring mission of the parliamentary elections in 2005. The speaker thanked the member countries of the francophone community for the support given to the Republic of Moldova in its efforts of solving the Transnistrian dispute, referring also to the development program of youth policies, launched by Moldova last year. In the end of his speech, Lupu expressed his hope that IOF member countries will support the candidature of Moldova as host country of the 14th edition of the high level reunion of Francophony in 2012. The speaker of the Parliament met with the President of Romania, Traian Basescu and with the minister of Foreign Affairs, Mihai-Razvan Ungureanu. The Moldovan speaker congratulated his collocutors on the occasion of the resolution presented in the country report of the European Commission published on September 26 and according to which Romania will join the EU on January 1, 2007. As well Marian Lupu appreciated the high level of the Summit’s organization. The head of the Moldovan Legislative also met with a series of official from different countries, such as the General Secretary of IOF, Abdou Diouf, President of France, Jacques Chirac, prime-minister of Canada, Stephen Harper and the President of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso. 53 countries are IOF members and other 10 have the statute of observers.
