The farms have finished sowing the fields with sugar beet. 20,600 hectares of land were sowed overall, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Union of Sugar Producers of Moldova. According to the communiqué, Sudzucker Moldova contracted to work about 16,000 hectares of sugar beet fields in the zones located near its factories. It also provided technical credits worth approximately 70 million lei to the production sector. The company’s administration decided to increase the areas contracted sowed areas as another sugar producer - Marr Sugar Moldova – refused to participate in the extension of the sugar beet fields. The agricultural entrepreneurs cultivated about 2,000 hectares of land without contracts for the extension of areas. In addition, 2,600 hectares sowed with sugar beet were contracted to be worked by Wee Trade Company. Under the agreement between Wee Trade and Sudzucker Moldova, the latter will purchase the harvest obtained from these areas, the communiqué says. According to the agricultural department of Sudzucker Moldova, the amount of humidity this year and other natural factors will contribute to a good harvest. The Union of Sugar Producers voiced hope that the raw material that will be obtained from the areas sowed in 2009 will be enough to satisfy the internal demand for sugar and to export sugar to the EU and the CIS under preferential conditions.
