Soros-Moldova Foundation launches new program to consolidate Moldovan Nongovernmental sector

The “Civil Society” program of the Soros-Moldova Foundation, with the support of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), launches a new program regarding the consolidation of the nongovernmental sector in Moldova. The program includes an open grant contest on three levels – advocacy projects, partnership projects and grants for the Transnistrian region. In the first case, will be supported the projects which promote the involvement of the civil society in the process of decision-making. As well, will have priority the projects that will propose elaborating strategies which plead for the Government’s Transparency and responsibility, consolidated on the three priority areas: human rights, good governing and democracy. In case of the partnership-based projects will be supported the projects and programs which fit the needs of the society, have an innovating character and contribute to the promotion of NGO activities and involves the citizens in their implementation. Involvement of the Transnistrian region organizations is encouraged. Will be accepted projects of the NGOs from the Transnistrian region that are registered at the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Moldova, which intend to expand their activities in the Transnistrian region and will involve the population from the left bank of the Dniester river in civic education activities, democratization and human rights protection. The projects of I type will be examined in two stages; the project’s concept must be presented until 30 May and 30 October 2006. The dead-lines for the projects of II and III types are 10 June, 6 September and 12 December 2006.
