Soros Foundation-Moldova offers US$100,000 for fighting COVID-19

The Soros Foundation-Moldova allocates the first tranche of US$ 100,000 for helping the Republic of Moldova contain the novel coronavirus pandemic. In the course of next week, the Foundation will transmit protective equipment, such as masks, gloves and disinfectants, to those who are exposed to an increased risk of infection, IPN reports.

According to a press release of the Foundation, Soros Foundation-Moldova executive director Petru Culeac stated that the money will be primarily directed to those who urgently need assistance, specifically doctors, social assistants, police officers and all those who face difficulties in the period.

He said now that Moldova is threated by an unprecedented crisis, the Foundation will take any opportunity to contribute to the fight against the novel coronavirus. “The US$ 100,000 we are allocating now is only a first step of our effort aimed at combating COVID-19. We will be making every effort and will further support the Republic of Moldova,” stated Petru Culeac.

The Soros Foundation-Moldova is a non-governmental, non-for-profit and non-political organization that was established in 1992 by philanthropist George Soros to promote the development of an open society in Moldova.
