The members of the parliamentary group of Șor Party do not attend the February 3 sitting of Parliament. It is a form of protest, MP Marina Tauber said in a press briefing before the sitting. She noted that in Parliament there are no debates on content and no diversity of opinions and all the taken decisions are aimed at promoting the interests of the clans that seized power in the country about half a year ago, IPN reports.

The MP said the Republic of Moldova turns into a totalitarian state in which the power was usurped, while the democratic institutions do not work. “The opposition was marginalized and reduced to silence, any balance of forces being annihilated. The intimidation and harassment to which those who do not share the official view are subjected follow such logic,” stated Marina Tauber.

She noted that justice is televised, while the searches and arrests feature exclusively persons who are in opposition. “We witnessed such a show yesterday when our mates were abusive detained so as to distract public attention from the unprecedented, simultaneous rises in prices, including of bread,” said the MP, noting she cannot understand why other opposition MPs do not sign the censure motion drafted by Șor Party. She suspects these came to terms with the government and are therefore no longer so vocal.

Five former MPs were arrested for 72 hours on February 2. These are: Violeta Ivanov, Vladimir Vitiuc and Sergiu Sîrbu, who now form part of Șor Party, and Anatolie Zagorodnyi and Artur Reshetnikov. They are investigated for unjust enrichment, being suspected of taking bribe for switching their parliamentary groups.
