For the sixth consecutive year, representatives of nongovernmental organizations, civic activists and not only will take part in the Solidarity March on March 8. This year is dedicated to the ratification of the Istanbul Convention and the march is entitled “It was violence at start/ Violence against us/ Stop violence/Start Istanbul Convention!”, IPN reports.
“Why the Istanbul Convention? This is also called the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence. We know, it sounds long, but it is crucial for the women in Moldova to have this document. But our Government delays things and any moment can be fatal for women who experience violence,” said the organizers.
The participants will set off from the square of the shopping center Unic at 1pm and will walk along Ștefan cel Mare și Sfânt Blvd up to the Dendrarium Park, where they will have a picnic. According to the organizers, the participants will stop at state institutions and will chant slogans.
The march is organized by the Group of Feminist Initiatives of Moldova, the GDM Center, the National Coalition “Life Without Domestic Violence” and the Gender Equality Platform.
