Socialist councilors hold public hearings on separation of powers of mayor and CMC

The councilors of the Party of Socialists are holding public hearings on the separation of the powers of the mayor general and the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) this evening. The announcement was made by Socialist councilors in a news conference on March 1. The hearings will include debates on the methods of implementing the Law on the Local Public Administration, IPN reports.

The hearings will also focus on the implementation of the Law on the Status of the Municipality of Chisinau in the context of the hiring or firing of heads of enterprises, divisions and subdivisions that are subordinate to the CMC and the mayor.

According to the Socialists, the hearings are held in connection with the dismissal of the head of the Centru district of Chisinau Oleg Poiata and the chief of the Chisinau Transport Division Igor Gamretski, who yet continue to work. “We need public contests based on performance criteria. We need professionals to manage the municipality, not persons close to the mayor or his classmates or ‘good people’ from the Liberal Party,” said the head of the Socialist group on the CMC Ion Ceban.

The councilors insistently asked that those responsible for the gas cylinder explosion in a café near the Central Market of Chisinau should be held accountable.
