A social laundry was opened in Zubrești village of Straseni district. Access to laundry services is free for all residents. The project was developed with financial support from the European Union and the local public authorities, IPN reports.
The new social laundry was opened in the space provided by the mayor’s office. After major renovation works, the room was equipped with washing machines and dryers. A bathroom and a social room were set up in the same space.
The project is a partnership between the European Union, the "Zubrea" Natives' Association, the local authorities and locals. The EU’s support amounted to €31,000, the mayor’s office contributed over 96,000 lei, and the local community collected donations to the value of 14,000 lei.
"The European Union will continue to support such projects, which improve the lives of people in need and contribute to the creation of stronger and more united communities," said Irina Beșliu, Program Manager of the European Union Delegation to the Republic of Moldova.
The laundry in the village of Zubrești is part of an extensive project supported by the European Union, which includes the development of 16 similar social services throughout Moldova. So far, 11 localities opened such social laundries, and over 1,500 people already benefit from these services.
