The smoking area at the Chisinau International Airport was checked by the National Technical Surveillance Inspectorate, which confirmed that all fire safety measures are observed, the airport’s administration noted in a press release, quoted by IPN.
According to the source, following the checks, it was also found that the automated fire extinguishing, signaling and warning systems work according to the norms.
"In accordance with the legal provisions in force, the smoking area is a temporary construction, which does not require an urban planning certificate or building permit," says the press release.
The airport’s administration noted that the purpose of this area is to provide a safe alternative for passengers and prevent incidents caused by smoking in unauthorized spaces, such as toilets – including those intended for children and people with disabilities.
According to information disseminated in the public space, the smoking area at the Airport was built exactly above a boiler room, where gas is used. In this connection, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations specified that the space was arranged without consulting the competent authorities in the field of construction. Respectively, the state body for the supervision of fire measures is the National Technical Surveillance Inspectorate.
