Smaller fines for non-payment of mandatory health insurance premiums

The current fines for the non-payment of the mandatory health insurance premiums in a fixed amount will be reduced. This is provided in a bill that was approved by the Government, IPN reports.

Currently, the fines range from 750 lei to 1,650 lei, but will be decreased to 500 to 1,250 lei.

The National Health Insurance Company said that about 300 persons were fined last year for not paying the mandatory health insurance premium in a fixed amount on time.

The number of persons who buy a health insurance policy individually has increased. Over 6,000 persons purchased policies during the first ten days of this year, by about 600 persons more than in the corresponding period last year. This is due to the fact that more citizens realize the importance of possessing a health policy during the COVID-19 pandemic, noted the Company.

The persons who need to buy a health insurance policy individually benefit from discounts of 50%, 60% and 75% of the mandatory health insurance premium if they paid this by March 31.
