Slawomir Pichor was appointed Deputy Head of the European Union Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM). He has served as EUBAM Head of Operations since January 2008, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Mission. “I’m honored and very pleased to be given the opportunity to serve as Deputy Head of EUBAM,” said Slawomir Pichor. “I’ve already seen the impact the Mission has in supporting border security in Moldova and Ukraine and I’m looking forward to building on these successes with our partners.” The new EUBAM Deputy Head served 17 years in the Polish Customs Service where he held several senior managerial positions since 1997. He was Deputy Chief of the Polish Customs Service, responsible for 15,000 officers, from 2004-2006. He holds the rank of Chief Superintendent, which is classed as General Officer equal to Brigadier General. EUBAM was launched on November 30, 2005 at the joint request of the Presidents of the Republic Moldova and Ukraine. It is an advisory, technical body with no executive powers. The Mission is fully funded by the European Union.
